Buddha Tattoo Commission

This is a tattoo commission for a friend. She wanted Buddha, so I drew it.

On the left side there are only the lines, on the right I layed down the shadows to see how it could look like finished.

My ideas behind it:
Buddha sits in a meditation position. His right hand is the gesture of „The lesson of education“, the right hand means „Meditation“.
His eyes are closed in meditation, the calm position shows the main trait of Buddhism.
The flowers are Lotus. The Lotus is an important flower of Buddhism, it stands for meditation, pureness and selflessness.
I drew 8 Lotus (the 8 is the one where Buddha sits on), because Buddhism is teaching 8 devices which is called the „Noble Eightfold Path“.

Though I am not Buddhist I really like the idea behind it. It is teaching a very peaceful way of living. I also like Buddhas idea about the „Middle Path“ without falling into any extremes. Just the greatest world religion, really!
